Terms and conditions
These are the terms on which I provide assessments, tuition, training, research and speaking. If anything here is unclear, please ask before booking. I would always rather talk something through than have it come as a surprise.
Assessments
- A full diagnostic assessment is £450 for children and young people, and £450 for adults. £150 secures the booking. The balance is payable on or before the day of the assessment.
- If you need to move the appointment, please give at least 7 days’ notice. The booking fee will be carried over to the new date.
- Where an assessment is cancelled or moved with less than 7 days’ notice, the £150 booking fee is retained, because the day has been held and cannot usually be filled at short notice.
- If your child is unwell on the day, tell me and we will simply rearrange. I will not charge you for that. Assessing a child who is poorly produces an unreliable result and an unhappy child, which serves nobody.
- If I have to cancel or postpone, you will be offered the first available alternative date, or a full refund of everything paid, including the booking fee.
- Reports are issued within two weeks of the assessment.
- Exam access arrangement assessments and other assessments follow the same notice periods, with the booking fee set in proportion to the fee quoted.
Tuition
- All lessons must be paid for in advance or at the time of the lesson.
- You must give at least 24 hours’ notice of a lesson cancellation, otherwise you will be charged the cost of the lesson. Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice are billed at no more than 1 hour of instruction.
- Where the tutor is absent, the client will not be billed, and any monies already paid will be credited to their next invoice.
- Scheduled tutorials will always take place on the day, time and venue specified, unless a tutorial is rearranged for a time that is mutually convenient to both tutor and student. Lessons continue until a mutually agreed termination date.
- Although I work within the school curriculum, I do not do homework or assignment questions that are meant to be the student’s own work.
Training and INSET
- Should you wish to cancel INSET, you must give at least 2 weeks’ notice, or you will be charged for the session. Further details of cancellation charges are set out on your invoice and quotation.
- Where a session is moved rather than cancelled, and a mutually convenient alternative date can be agreed within three months, no cancellation charge applies.
- Travel and accommodation costs already incurred and not recoverable remain payable, whatever the notice given.
- If I have to cancel, you will not be charged, and I will help you find an alternative date or, if you would prefer, another suitable presenter.
Research and consultancy
- Quotations for research services are valid for 3 months unless otherwise stated. After that period, a quotation will be redone and may be subject to a price increase.
- Unless otherwise stated, quotations represent the maximum price payable. Where projects are charged at an hourly or daily rate rather than a fixed price, the rate is clearly stated on the estimate.
- Where a project is cancelled after it has been accepted, all work completed up to the date of cancellation is chargeable, together with any non-recoverable costs already committed.
- In addition, where a project is cancelled with less than 4 weeks’ notice of the agreed start date, 50% of the remaining fee is payable, because the time has been reserved and cannot usually be reallocated at short notice.
- A project may be paused for up to 3 months without charge, by agreement. Beyond that it is treated as a cancellation.
- Expert witness instructions are subject to separate terms, agreed in writing at the point of instruction.
Speaking and events
- Fees, travel and any accommodation are agreed in writing before the booking is confirmed.
- If you cancel more than 8 weeks before the event, no fee is payable.
- If you cancel between 4 and 8 weeks before the event, 50% of the agreed fee is payable.
- If you cancel less than 4 weeks before the event, the full fee is payable, because that date is unlikely to be filled.
- Travel and accommodation costs already incurred and not recoverable remain payable in all cases.
- If I have to cancel, no fee is payable, and I will do what I can to help you find a suitable replacement speaker.
If circumstances make delivery impossible
Occasionally something happens that neither of us can control: serious illness, bereavement, severe weather, transport failure, or a setting closing unexpectedly. In those circumstances I will always try to rearrange rather than charge, and I ask the same understanding in return. Nothing in these terms is intended to hold you to a cancellation charge in genuinely exceptional circumstances.
Payment
- I can accept cash, cheque, cards or BACS.
- All invoices must be paid within 14 days of the invoice date. Where they are not, they may be subject to a surcharge to cover reasonable losses to Helen’s Place.
- All prices include VAT.
Outcomes and liability
- I strive to provide the best possible service. However, I will not be held accountable or responsible for the academic success, or lack of it, demonstrated by the student or client. Although I will do everything in my power to help grades and skill sets improve, I can offer no guarantee of this.
- An assessment reports on the profile identified on the day. It is not a guarantee of any particular outcome, adjustment or funding decision made by a school, exam board, university or employer.
- I am not liable for any direct, incidental, consequential, indirect, special, punitive or similar damages arising out of use of the tutoring service, or any errors or omissions in the content of the materials. You, the client, specifically waive any and all claims arising out of the use of this tutoring service.
Copyright
- All materials created in-house are copyright. You agree that you will not publish or distribute any portion of any materials without prior written permission.
- Assessment reports are provided for the use of the person assessed and their family, and for sharing with their school, college, university, exam board or employer as needed. They should not be published more widely without permission.
